Cruz was set to face Renan Barao to unify the Bantamweight title in 2014, but once again injuries forced Cruz to the sidelines. Cruz was forced to vacate his title, but all hope is not lost, as Cruz still has an outside chance of fighting for the title in 2014. Should Barao defeat Faber for the 2nd time, there’s not many viable title contenders, which could once again open the door for Cruz’s return.
