Lorenz Larkin burst onto the Strikeforce scene in 2011. He is thus far 3-0 in the promotion with wins over Scott Lighty, Gian Villante, and Nick Rossborough. Larkin is set to take a big step up in competition in 2012 and we will see whether his lack of experience and grappling background holds him back.
Larkin has lethal striking and closely resembles Melvin Manhoef in the cage with Manhoef’s trademark fight shorts and fight style. Larkin struggled in his bout with Rossborough, which revealed his suspect ground skills. Larkin could possibly consider a move down to middleweight should he find trouble dealing with bigger wrestlers, though he once competed as a heavyweight earlier in his career. With a thin Strikeforce light heavyweight division, the opportunity will be there for him to make an instant impact at the top of the division.
