Josh Barnett has always been considered one of the top heavyweights in the world. Had he not tested positive 3 separate times for banned substances, he likely would have enjoyed a lengthy tenure as the UFC heavyweight champion. Nonetheless, Barnett was given one last shot by Strikeforce in 2011 to prove his legitimacy as a top-level heavyweight.

Barnett has thus far passed the test by defeating Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov and putting up a competitive fight against Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix finals.
Barnett has a ton of experience against high-level competition and his striking and grappling are considered elite for the heavyweight division. Barnett prefers to do his dirty work on the ground where he takes pride in pounding the will out of his opponents.
