| UFC Rankings are comprised of all fighters currently signed to the UFC. RankingMMA has been publishing UFC rankings since 2006. So, how do we compile our rankings? What separates us from other web sites that formulate rankings? We are the only source that uses computerized analytics rankings system & actual fight footage to determine rankings similar. The reason we do this is to avoid ranking bias. By using analytics, fighters are scored no matter their popularity or hype. From there, tiers are created and fighters are ranked from within those tiers. Here is the rankings criteria that encompasses a fighter ranking: - Most recent performance - Performance against top competition - Estimated ability against future competition - Strength of competition - Activity in the last 3 years - Last 5 fights There are many fighters sporting undefeated records from developing fight scenes, especially abroad. Something we take into consideration is the strength of competition they have faced. If a fighter has compiled a bunch of wins against competition that is lackluster they will likely have a difficult time moving up in the rankings until they face stiffer competition in order for us to accurately predict how they would perform against exceedingly tougher competition. If a fighter has fought elite competition and fallen short, we factor in how they performed. If a fighter fairs well against a higher-ranked adversary, they could still move up in the rankings. Actual fight footage is reviewed, regardless of promotion in order to formulate our rankings. = Fighter moves up in the rankings after recent fight = Fighter moves down in the rankings after recent fight Reasons a fighter is ineligible for UFC Rankings = Inactivity over 15 months = Changing weight classes. A fighter must debut in their new weight class in order to officially be ranked there. Upon their debut, they will be removed from their former weight class. If the fighter temporarily competed outside of their division, they will be ranked in their primary division unless the fighter states different. = Suspension. Should a fighter be suspended for performance enhancing substances or fighter conduct, they will be removed from the rankings. = Info Needed. A fighter has signed or re-signed with the UFC, but have yet to officially fight in the UFC. |

Also feels like Alexandr Romanov is underrated, as he’s 16-0 with wins over Juan Espino and Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Hard to imagine him being ranked behind Alexey Oleinik who has lost 3 of 4

I can’t for two match-ups in the heavyweight division: Stipe vs Jones, and Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes. The aftermath of those two fights will give fans a clearer lay of the land for who gets to be the next heavyweight champion.
I hate interim titles, but you are correct that we need to keep the division going while building new stars at the same time. Both fights you mentioned, especially Jones/Miocic would be a huge fight.
In September 2020, Todd Duffee and the UFC parted ways due to inactivity due to injury.
Also, have to imagine Travis Browne is no longer an active fighter on the UFC roster and thus should be removed as well.

Thanks for your opinion on Hardy vs. Gane in the rankings. Gane is higher ranked due to being undefeated while also facing quality competition, in and outside the UFC. Gane had 2 quality wins prior to signing with the UFC, beating 7-0 undefeated Canadian Adam Dyczka and 8-1 Brazilian Roggers Souza. Hardy has improved with each fight and is nearing Top 15 contention. Where do you see Gane ranked currently?

Hi John, as soon as Jones debuts in that weight class he will be ranked. For now, he will continue to be ranked at LHW since has fought there in the last 15 months.

Hi Tim, although his UFC contract expired, Hunt has never announced his retirement from MMA. I searched the last few months for any recent interviews from Hunt, and could not find anything claiming he is officially retired. Until his inactivity hits 15 months or a retirement announcement occurs, he will remain ranked. Thank you for your comment!

You are correct, the list is only made up of active fighters. I am soon adding fighters not on the UFC’s active roster, so I will be able to create a historical and active list for a variety of statistics.

He hasn’t fought since 2011 and isn’t currently on the UFC roster. The only hint that he isn’t done fighting was in a Facebook exchange with a fan who praised Carwin’s MMA career, and in reply Carwin asked “Are you saying it is over?”.
Hardly confirmation of a comeback, and certainly not enough to be ranked here.

even though big country clearly lost to miocic, it was through decision. nelsons style is to knock somebody in the jaw out cold, and stipe was aware of this and didnt come close and worked him with his speed and range strategically very clever and all but stipe still lost to struve while nelson destroyed the skyscraper. even though they say they are as good as their last fight I still think roy nelson is the more dangerous fighter, no dissrespect to stipe miocic because he bullied nelson just like dos santos did but it wasnt as convincing to me. just my opinion, basicly miocic should be placed above nelson he defeated him fair and square.
Nelson is above Miocic because the ufc.com/rankings says he is. If it were my choice, Miocic would easily be ahead of Nelson based off their last fight.
Just to reiterate, I use the UFC.com/rankings for my Top 10 and then we rank all the rest.
I think the UFC kinda messed up with putting Roy Nelson above Frank Mir … Mir outclassed him when they fought and Roy has yet to beat anyone worthy of sending him above Mir … Mir may have a 2 fight losing streak but they’re to JDS and DC, and Roy’s 3 fight win streak is vs. two guys ranked under 15 (in a 22 ranked guys division) and a cut fighter. How does he rank above Mir?
I agree with you. Nelson has never beaten a Top 10 guy, but thanks to a thin HW division and some recent losses to the guys ahead of him, it seems as if he may be overrated. A lot of people claim that Nelson was sick coming into the Mir fight, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for why Nelson should be ranked above Mir. Nelson is certainly a top talent, but I think is his ceiling is only so high when watching him face guys like JDS, Werdum, and Mir.
Unfortunately Junior dos Santos gave his victory for Cain Velasquez for $ 400,000. He did contacts with Dana White before the fight. All the brazilians knows about that, except UFC and Dana White.
But in the future he will get back his belt because obviously JDS is much better than VELASQUEZ.

Cain won via decision in the 2nd fight, then TKO’d JDS in the 5th round of the 3rd fight..

Schaub over Miocic and Barry is your biggest fault with the UFC HW rankings, and you know what I agree with you in a lot of ways. I think Schaub would probably lose to both guys. The reason Schaub is ranked above them are his wins over Cro Cop and Gonzaga. Miocic has never beaten anyone ranked higher than those guys. Barry’s KO win over Del Rosario was huge, but he’s just 2-3 in his last 5 fights. Schaub’s losses are to Nogueira (Top 10) and Rothwell, while Barry’s losses are to guys ranked lower (Lavar Johnson, Kongo). Maybe Joe Silva will book Barry against someone like Rothwell, Hunt, Schaub to boost him up the ranks.

Thanks man, I make my fair share of mistakes too though. Just like this last weekend, I didn’t think Saffiedine had much of a chance against Marquardt, and what do you know it was complete domination for Saffiedine. It’s what makes this sport fun to watch.
I don’t like Bigfoot at No.4,put him one spot above Browne,Browne was obviously hampered by that leg injury. after big losses to Cormier and Velasquez ,guys like Struve,Congo,Rothwell would all light him up and Hunt would make a right mess of him too.
I don’t like him at #4 either, but his wins over Fedor, Browne, Kyle, and Arlovski are hard to ignore. Silva’s losses to Cain and Cormier were extremely one-sided, yet those two fighters are arguably the top 3 fighters in the entire division. I don’t think Struve, Kongo, Rothwell, or Hunt would do much better against them. Kongo gave Cain a decent fight, but that was years.
Kongo, Rothwell, and Hunt are in need of some quality wins. Hunt is closest right now, but I think most fans are aware of his limitations on the ground. If Rothwell is in shape as he was for the Schaub fight, he is dangerous. Kongo has looked flat ever since losing to Mir. Yes, he did knock out Barry, but that was quite the hail mary victory.
The toughest thing was to put Silva above Mir. It’s Silva’s win over Fedor that is making the difference. There are not many fighters that can claim that right.

I love fedor,one of the best ever,but he fought on too long,much like B.J.Penn he got by on natural ability without being super fit and age catches up with them quicker than say Dan Henderson or Randy Couture who extended their careers by being extremely fit. My rankings can be seen at http:****
I think you have Hunt,Rothwell and Kongo in the right order but Schaub, Bigfoot,Browne and Struve should be below them,Browne only drew with Kongo and Schaub’ KO of Crocop put him in the top ten at the time so he could even slot in between Rothwell and Kongo.
Mark Hunt can throw down with any striker in the heavyweight division, but his ground game is still severely lacking. Look at what Sean McCorkle did to him. He has made some slight gains in his overall takedown defense and submission ability, but I still feel there is absolutely no way he wins against Bigfoot or Struve if the fight went to the floor.
Kongo is falling off fast. You are correct that it was not too long ago that Kongo earned a draw of Browne, but recent back injuries have robbed him of his overall mobility and he just looks gunshy as of late.
I still think you’re discounting Bigfoot’s ability as a high-level heavyweight. His top control is some of the best in the business.
Over the last 3 years:
Bigfoot’s wins = Fedor, Browne, Arlovski, Kyle
Hunt’s wins = Kongo, Rothwell
I realize Bigfoot’s one-sided losses likely merit most of his downgrading in your eyes, but that is exactly the point of why I am yet to be sold on Hunt.
Hopefully, Hunt vs. Bigfoot is booked in the near future…

I hear you. I also think Bigfoot is overrated at #4, but it’s mainly because Overeem, Cormier, and Barnett are not currently fighting in the UFC. Bring those guys in and Silva drops down to 7th. Imagine if Fedor was still active though, Silva would clearly still be ranked ahead of him. That is a factoring reason for why Bigfoot is ranked ahead of guys like Mir, Nelson, Struve, Hunt, etc.
If Stipe Miocic’ run up the heavyweight rankings ends this weekend,could he make LHW?
I don’t think he could make 205, but he sure would make a welcome addition to the light heavyweight division that is hungry for new title challengers.
Who knows though, Miocic used to wrestle at 197 lbs. in college. He seems to have packed on some muscle over the years, but if Daniel cormier is willing to make the cut to 205, I’m not sure why Stipe wouldn’t consider it should he run into some trouble at heavyweight.

Carwin dominated Frank Mir in their head-to-head matchup. Mir has put together a solid win streak since the loss, but he will still need to prove himself against a Top 5 fighter to move ahead of Carwin.
