Alexander Shlemenko may be the most underrated fighter in all of mixed martial arts. At just 27 years old, Shlemenko has amassed 51 fights, 44 of which he has won. Earlier in Shlemenko’s career he struggled against stiffer competition, losing to Brazilians Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, but outside of a fluke knockout loss to Jordan Radev, he has been an unstoppable force.
Shlemenko is currently on a 13-1 run, his only loss coming to Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard. Shlemenko signed with Bellator in 2010 and immediately found success in Bellator’s 2nd middleweight tournament. Shlemenko defeated Matt Major, Jared Hess, and Bryan Baker to win the tournament, eventually losing via decision to Lombard for the championship. Shlemenko stayed active, winning 3 more fights before partaking in Bellator’s 3rd middleweight tournament. Shlemenko won his 2nd straight Bellator tournament, defeating Zelg Galesic, Brian Rogers, and Vitor Vianna to once again earn the right to face Hector Lombard in 2012. Lombard’s status in Bellator is currently unknown as his contract is about to expire. This may end up leaving the door open for Shlemenko to fight for the vacant middleweight championship should Lombard leave.
