After listening to Sherdog’s Jordan Breen and Mike Whitman debate the top Welterweights in MMA history, they quickly came to the conclusion that Jake Shields earned his standing as one of the top 170-pounders ever to compete in the division. Shields is fresh off his release from the UFC. There are options for Shields like World Series of Fighting, Bellator, and One FC. For a fighter that just a year ago claimed decision victories over Top 10 Welterweights Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia, Shields still has relevancy in the MMA world. If Ben Askren wants to test himself, Shields would be the ideal opponent. The same can be said for Rousimar Palhares in World Series of Fighting.
