UFC Fight Night 36 Rankings: Winners and Losers
Winners
Nicholas MusokeDespite some higher profile fighters claiming victories at UFC Fight Night 36, Nicholas Musoke was probably the biggest rankings winner. Musoke was 1-0 in the UFC, having defeated veteran Alessio Sakara at Middlweight. Musoke was a slight underdog in his fight with Viscardi Andrade, but after nearly getting knocked out in the 1st round, he rebounded to win via decision. Now standing 2-0 in the UFC, Musoke looks to be a fighter to watch in the UFC Welterweight division.
These two Brazilians will never be fighting for a title anytime soon, but they did move up in the rankings following their 3-round bout. Damm is now 3-1 in the UFC, and though he will have a difficult time combating the size of bigger Lightweights, he has shown enough skill to maintain his roster spot. Meanwhile, Ivan Jorge’s UFC debut was less than stellar as he grinded out UFC Keith Wisniewski. I had Jorge ranked dead last at Welterweight, but now that he moved down to Lightweight, and looked much better than initially thought. Damm and Jorge are still possibly one loss away from being released, but both fighters moved up the Lightweight ranks a bit higher than I originally pegged, which is why I listed them in the “Winners” section.
Ildemar Alcantara was 2-1 coming into UFC Fight Night 36 bout opposite newcomer Albert Tumenov. Tumenov was considered to be one of the top Lightweight prospects in the world prior to signing with the UFC, and most oddsmakers had Alcantara losing this fight. Yet, Alcantara showed off a great chin, improved conditioning, and just enough wrestling to score the upset.
Losers
Maximo BlancoThe hype that once surrounded Maximo Blanco in the Sengoku promotion is now all but gone. He’s 1-4 in his last 5 fights, and though he’s been competitive in his Strikeforce and UFC tenure, he’s just been way too inconsistent.
