Prospect of the Week: Lowen Tynanes - Ranking MMA

Prospect of the Week: Lowen Tynanes

Lightweight Division

rosholt

Overview

Lowen Tynanes seems primed to cash in on his talent and bring his skills to the UFC. For the time being, Tynanes is currently under contract with One FC and King of the Cage. Tynanes is King of the Cage’s Junior Welterweight Champion (160 lbs.) and is rumored to be an upcoming title challenger for One FC Lightweight champion Shinya Aoki. Tynanes is just 23 years old, but he has already defeated some stiff competition on the regional scene including Eduard Folayang, Vuyisile Colossa, and Felipe Enomoto. Tynanes is 5-0 as a pro, after going 4-0 as an amateur (mixedmartialarts.com states 6-1).

Tynanes was a virtual unknown prior to being thrust into a regional title match with Folayang, who was 12-2 at the time and widely considered to be one of the top prospects in the Philippines. Yet, despite fighting in Folayang’s backyard, and with only 1 fight of pro experience, he pulled off a shocking upset as he stopped Folayang via TKO. Some argued that the fight was stopped due to a cut, but it is clear that Tynanes was absolutely dominating the fight up until the stoppage. Tynanes went on to sign with One FC in 2013 where he defeated fellow prospect Vuyisile Colossa. He would fight twice more in 2013, winning the KOTC title via 1st round round submission before returning at One FC to defeat Felipe Enomoto. Tynanes was born in Hawaii and was a state champion in wrestling prior to entering mixed martial arts.

Tynanes has great size, speed, and explosion for 155 lbs. He likes to push the pace and make his opponents fight on their heels. He is relentless with his takedowns, and when he gets you down he attacks with big elbows and punches from the top. His grappling looks stellar as well, routinely taking the backs of his opponents. His standup skills are lethal as well. He has great knees and is long and fast with his punches.

His gym affiliation fluctuates between different databases, but in his most recent bout he was announced as fighting out of the 808 Fight Team in Hawaii, which is also home to recent UFC signees Russell Doane and Louis Smolka. I am sure the UFC has Tynanes on their radar considering Doane and Smolka’s successful debuts. If Tynanes can get out of his One FC contract, expect him to sign with the UFC in 2014 or 2015.
