Matt Horwich vs. Giva Santana
The 2011 mixed martial arts independent scene just got a whole lot better as veterans Matt Horwich(26-17-1) and Giva Santana(15-1) will lock horns on February 26th according to 5ouncesofpain.
Horwich achieved the biggest win of his career last year as he submitted BJJ black belt Thales Leites, but the inconsistency that has plagued Horwich’s career quickly reappeared as he lost his next fight less than a month later to Eric Schambari. Horwich did rebound from that loss though with a win over Jake Rosholt, and now takes on another tough opponent in Santana.
Giva “The Arm Collector” Santana has earned the nickname, thanks to 12 of his 15 wins being via armbar. Despite a 15-1 record, Santana has been questionably passed over by larger promotions, and with age becoming a question mark, the time is now for Santana to make a run at a UFC or Strikeforce contract.
