Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson
The UFC is scrambling to salvage what’s left of it’s heavyweight division, after injuries have ravaged the once promising division. They will get a big lift as former champion Frank Mir(14-5) faces TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson(15-5) at UFC 130 according to 5ozofpain.
9th ranked Frank Mir was hoping for a rematch with Brock Lesnar, but with Lesnar on the sidelines he will face “Big Country.” Mir’s career has revolved around Lesnar, as he’s tried to improve his striking and strength in hopes of beating the former pro wrestler turned heavyweight champion. Mir’s last win was uninspiring to say the least as he fought Mirko Cro Cop in a lackluster fight that have many questioning Mir’s motivation.
Roy Nelson(ranked 12th) has been trapped in legal problems stemming from his time before The Ultimate Fighter, but it looks as if those problems are now in the rear view mirror as Nelson hopes to earn a fight with Lesnar.
This fight will likely produce the next opponent for Brock, which likely means a huge PPV payday. Both fighters are even in many aspects and this fight could come down to who lands the first big shot. Nelson may actually have the advantage in conditioning, so I’m going with “Big Country” in the upset.
