Trying to Reconnect

What’s up everyone. I’ve made this similar post a few times over the last few years. Life and work get so busy, that I stop posting, and this site begins to look outdated with exception to the rankings, which are updated nearly weekly, and sometimes daily.

When I originally started this site in 2005, and previously hosted all of my content on www.mmasurvival.com, I had ample amount of free time on my hands. That’s all changed, and with it, has gone my consistency towards writing. What never changed was my passion and support for this sport, but over the last year that has sort of waned as well. I have heard Ben Fowlkes from MMAjunkie and Luke Thomas from MMAfighting voice similar sentiments that over saturation has somewhat killed the excitement that once used to surround the sport.

There are still big fights I get pumped up for, but those feel few and far between. There are few stars in the sport, and I partially place that blame on the UFC’s matchmaking and their promotional machine that never seems to have a long-term vision towards developing fighters properly. The UFC certainly has the talent to make stars, but they have failed in making a proper beneficial environment for prospects to develop. I could go on in wild tangents for hours about this, but the point I am trying to make, is the UFC has watered down their cards so much that even for an absolute hardcore fan like myself, I can barely keep up.

So, what is the point to this post? Primarily, I wanted to explain, why I haven’t posted as much as I did in prior years. Second, I wanted to say that I am going to try and shift the focus of my site. Though this site is most known for its rankings, I did create a 2013 Prospects Series that was well-received. I tried to offer my services to a couple of the major MMA sites around, but after not hearing much interest, I had to decide whether to keep my site running or finally call it quits. I feel like I have invested so much of my time over the last few years, that I wasn’t ready to just close up shop. This site still generates over 500,000 page views per year, and I want to thank you for those that make me realize that my work is still being appreciated.

Well, now I want to step up and take a more personal approach to my writing and site content. There are so many sites that cover mixed martial arts. If you want fight announcements or news, go visit MMAjunkie, Sherdog, BloodyElbow, or the Underground. That’s where I go. I can’t match them by any means. I’m just a one-man team. What I do want to do is to still rekindle that passion I once had for the sport when I initially started my site. My voice has been gone, so as you can see by my homepage and the recent site redesign, I’m trying to bring a blog-type format back. My most recent postings will be front and center on the homepage. I will try to post as frequently as time allows me. I’ll still be most focused on rankings and prospects, but I will try my best to make this site more interesting and give reason to all you readers who come visit.

Sorry, for the FRAT, but if you didn’t read it, bottom line is I will be posting more frequently. I like the Tumblr type posting style, which is frequent and right to the point, so from here on out, I’m going to give it a try and see if it sticks!
