Mike Swick out 3 months with foot injury

Mike Swick was in a holding pattern as far as knowing who his next opponent will be. He will now have a valid reason for sitting on the sidelines as he’s injured his foot during training.

The current estimate puts Swick out for 3-4 months. Swick was rumored to face Thiago Alves, should B.J. Penn defeat St.Pierre. If St.Pierre wins, Alves would receive an immediate title shot, therefore leaving Swick on the outside.

Swick has been impressive since joining the 170-division. He outpointed 8th ranked Marcus Davis and knocked out Jonathan Goulet. Swick is right in the thick of the top 10, but he has few options because his training partners are 3rd ranked Jon Fitch and 4th ranked Josh Koscheck. So, Swick was either forced to wait for Alves or take a step down in competition.
