Rankings Update

The rankings have been updated following this weekend’s limited amount of action. Fighters with the most movement in the rankings are listed below.

Biggest Winners
Todd Duffee
Todd Duffee did not fight this weekend, but he did re-sign with the UFC following a frustration lack of activity in 2012. Duffee has been diligently putting in his work at AKA alongside Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. He was always thought to have the physical skills to possibly be a breakout star. The time is now for him to prove himself in the UFC’s heavyweight division that is hungry for new stars.
Rich Clementi
Rich Clementi was actually eliminated from the Bellator Top 10 LW rankings after announcing his retirement this week. Clementi pulled off a remarkable upset over Bellator’s prized prospect Alexander Sarnavskiy in the 1st round of Bellator’s Season 7 LW tournament. Clementi took some punishment in that fight and may have been a bit banged up as he entered the next round against Marcin Held. Clementi gambled that his BJJ game could stand up to Held’s leglock submission game, but he soon found out that it was not the wisest of decisions. Clementi fought over 60 times in his career and was always willing to step up against anyone, anytime. His career highlights have to be his upset victories over Anthony Johnson and Melvin Guillard.

Biggest Losers
John Maguire
John Maguire announced that he will be moving up in weight class following his 2nd straight loss in the UFC at 170 lbs. The decision seems highly questionable as Maguire was already one of the smallest welterweights in the UFC and was known to carry around some extra weight into the cage. Maguire’s dedication to training has always been shaky, and this decision should solidify that theory as Maguire could have easily made the cut down to 155 lbs. rather than 185. Maguire will have zero shot at being a factor at MW where nearly all of the fighters in the division will have a strength and reach advantage.
Thiago Silva
Thiago Silva’s downward spiral continues as he has been suspended once again, this time for a positive marijuana test. Silva is now officially 0-2 in the last 3+ years, both of his wins being wiped out due to failed post-fight tests. Silva is still young and has a chance to turn things around, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC were to release him should he lose his next fight. Though Silva is one of the most intimidating fighters in the sport, all the controversy surrounding him may just be too much for the UFC to swallow.
