Jamie Varner released by UFC

Jamie Varner may have been the face of the WEC lightweight division for 2008 and 2009, but he will not be joining the UFC after his loss to Shane Roller at the WEC’s final show, WEC 53.

Varner’s antics over the last few years have not earned him many fans and with an 0-3-1 record in his last 4 fights, the cut was to be expected. Varner seemed to think he was better than his opponents before even facing them. He considered himself a big fish in a small pond, and for awhile he was, but the division passed him by with the rise of Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis. Zuffa and Reed Harris will likely look to re-sign Varner once he strings together some victories on the independent scene due to his loyalty and ability to sell fights.
