Joe Riggs and Joey Villasenor released by Strikeforce

Strikeforce has cut ties with two veterans, 37th ranked welterweight Joe Riggs(34-11) and 46th ranked middleweight Joey Villasenor(27-8) according to FiveOuncesofPain.

Riggs has won 6 of his last 7 fights, the only loss coming to Jay Hieron. Yet, Riggs made it known that he was not pleased with Strikeforce’s inability to provide him fights on a consistent basis as he only fought twice under the Stikeforce banner in the last 18 months. Riggs is a well-traveled veteran, holding wins over Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle, Joe Doerksen, Kendall Grove, Phil Baroni, and Rob Kimmons.

Joey Villasenor is an expected cut following consecutive losses to Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo Souza and Danillo Villefort. Villasenor has fought for virtually every promotion in his 11-year career except the UFC. Villasenor will have to string together some victories on the independent scene in order to sign with one of the larger MMA promotions.
