Jorge Rivera @ Nissen Osterneck @ Fight Night 18

Jorge Rivera will make his octagon return against newcomer Nissen Osterneck at Fight Night 18.

Rivera has not appeared since being on the wrong end of a lopsided loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC 85. Rivera’s daughter became ill a couple of months later and sadly passed away in August. Now, Rivera is seeking one last run at the Middleweight title. He has been on the threshold twice before, losing a #1 contenders fight to Rich Franklin and falling to Patrick Cote at TUF 4. Rivera is a powerful striker, but his chin has been questioned as of late.

Rivera’s opponent, Osterneck, will come into the fight as a heavy underdog. He did hold his own against Jake Rosholt in his last fight with the WEC, but it was an ugly-looking fight. Rosholt has to refine his striking and put on some bulk in order to compete with an experienced veteran like Rivera.
