10 Best MMA Flyweight Prospects of 2014

#5: Aaron Ely

Aaron Ely is one of the most underrated Flyweights in the world today. His wrestling and grappling should make him an immediate threat in the UFC. His last fight was against current UFC fighter Dustin Ortiz in the RFA promotion. Ely nearly submitted Ortiz in the 1st round, and looked to have won the 2nd round as well with his takedowns. Unfortunately for Ely, the judges sided with Ortiz, which prompted announcer Pat Miletich to voice his displeasure with the verdict. Prior to the controversial decision loss to Ortiz, Ely had submitted recently crowned RFA Flyweight champion Matt Manzanares. His only other career loss was another controversial decision that took place at 135 lbs. Had Ely gotten the nod over Dustin Ortiz, he likely would be fighting in the UFC today. Ely’s striking and conditioning still need some significant work, but considering his performance against Ortiz, there is a lot to like about Aaron Ely.
